Amex Platinum card review: High annual fee with loads of perks

american express card design

American Express’s contribution is being given in the name of Kathryn and Kenneth Chenault, two longtime patrons of the Studio Museum. As of today (Thursday, January 20, 2022), Amex Platinum cardmembers can choose from two new card designs. This is available for consumer cards issued in the United States, for both new and existing cardmembers.

The New Amex Platinum and Centurion Art Card Designs + Prada – How To Get Them

Still, there are also subtle differences that might push you toward one version over the other. It's crazy to think that there was really only one mass-market premium card less than a decade ago — The Platinum Card® from American Express. Now, the Platinum card is just one of a half dozen or so premium card offerings from American Express, but there are actually several different versions. Someone who doesn’t want to worry about maximizing travel rewards is a great fit for the Blue Cash Preferred. You don't have to be a serious aviation aficionado to appreciate the special nature of a card made partially from retired Delta 747s.

PERSONAL CHECKING AND LOANS

Here's what you can look forward to from the just-released, exclusive, limited-edition Boeing 747 card design from Delta Air Lines and American Express. For rates and fees of The Platinum Card® from American Express, please click here. You can follow this checklist of things to do when you receive your Amex Platinum card so you don't miss out on perks.

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card details

Based on our rewards program valuations, the current welcome bonus is worth about $1,440, which alone makes up for more than two years of the annual fee. However, the Boeing plane depicted on the Delta card design is the 747 jumbo jet, dubbed the “Queen of the Skies.” The cards are made of 33% metal from two Delta Boeing 747 planes that spent over 27 years in service, both retiring in 2017. Details about the aircraft are included on the front of the all-white card, including the dates of first and last flight, total miles flown, and more.

This card is identical to the personal Platinum card in most ways, except it comes with one neat perk — the ability to cash out Membership Rewards at a rate of 1.25 cents each to a linked Schwab brokerage account. Note that this is significantly below TPG's valuation of Membership Rewards points at 2 cents each, but if you find yourself racking up points faster than you can spend them, this can be a worthwhile option. The American Express Platinum Card for Schwab is only available to Charles Schwab customers. There's no way around this requirement since you must sign into your Schwab account during the application process. The Schwab investor checking account reimburses all ATM fees worldwide, making this a great option for getting cash when traveling.

Just remember that offers are subject to change at any time and are not necessarily available to everyone. Other than booking airfare – which gets you 5x points for every dollar you spend directly with the airline or through Amex Travel – there are simply much better options for your everyday spending. Look no further than the Art x Platinum designs, exclusive to new and existing Platinum Card Members.

Both cards offer complimentary access to Delta Sky Club lounges when traveling on a same-day, Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight. Starting Feb. 1, 2025, Delta Reserve cardholders will be capped at visiting Sky Clubs 15 days a year. Additionally, the limited-edition card will include some details about the plane, including its inaugural and final flights, miles flown and more. Note that the design is only available while supplies last, so submit a request sooner rather than later. Yes, American Express is a reliable issuer that offers a variety of lucrative cards.

3 Card Members must add their Delta Skymiles Reserve or Reserve Business American Express Card to their Resy profile to access Global Dining Access by Resy. We always recommend checking these offers on a regular basis, as you never know when one might appear that applies to you. There are many different kinds of American Express cards, so be sure to carefully consider which one(s) would be the best for you. For luxury perks at a much lower price point, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card could be a great option. The parts that make up a 747, on the other hand, are made from materials like aluminum alloy, titanium and steel. These were then combined with other components from the retired 747 aircraft and rolled into thin sheets.

Up to $200 Annual Airline Fee Credit

That still exists, even though a few competitors in the luxury card category have emerged in recent years, including the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. When you stack them up against one another, the Amex Platinum shines in ways the others don't. From this screen, you'll be able to select the Platinum Card design you want. According to American Express, Julie Mehretu is one of the most renowned abstract artists today. Keep reading for a closer look at the two new designs and how you can get one.

Platinum x Kehinde Wiley brings brilliant botanicals directly onto the Platinum Card, wonderfully capturing the essence of Wiley’s profound energy and worldview. Meanwhile, Platinum x Julie Mehretu brings Mehretu’s signature style to the Platinum Card by evoking the abstract modernity for which she is known. American Express has collaborated with two of the most celebrated artists of our time to reimagine the Platinum Card design. Two Art x Platinum designs that transform and redefine what the Platinum Card can be.

This new glossy white design inspired by clouds showcases the engineering and design details that are characteristic of the Queen of the Skies, including the four engines and the iconic forward "hump." Consider this your chance to hold a piece of aviation history in the palm of your hand with a new design that celebrates the iconic 747. The Amex Platinum Card comes with an underrated perk that can be a lifesaver if you have an emergency while you're away from home. Cardholders get access to Amex's Premium Global Assist Hotline, which can help arrange things like passport replacement, medical referrals, and translation services.

Each year, the Studio Museum hosts three artists for the 11-month program, which includes studio space and culminates in an annual exhibition of their work. Other alumni include some of the most closely watched artists working today, including Kerry James Marshall, David Hammons, Simone Leigh, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, and Lauren Halsey. But if you are a Delta loyalist and you want to take advantage of Medallion status, lounge access, and other Delta perks, here’s what to know about the Reserve card. The Amex Platinum's $695 annual fee is steep, but the various annual credits can recoup the entire cost (and more), even before considering the card's other perks. According to TPG's latest monthly valuations, Amex Membership Rewards points are worth 2 cents each, making this bonus worth $1,600.

The best way to maximize the value of your hard-earned Membership Rewards points is through transferring them to any of Amex’s 17 airlines and three hotel transfer partners. Certain redemption options are a better value than others, but transferring to a reward partner is still the best way to maximize your points. Keep an eye out for periodic transfer bonuses to specific partners to get even more out of your points. Any small-business owner with significant spending in the eligible bonus categories — which include U.S. gas stations, U.S. restaurants, select technology providers and certain advertising purchases — can get great value from the Amex Business Gold card. For similar perks at a lower cost, consider the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, which has comparable cash-back rates for no annual fee (see rates and fees). In addition to the limited-edition look and feel of the card, new Delta SkyMiles Reserve cardmembers can also earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on purchases on the card in the first six months of card membership.

Equinox is a chain of high-end fitness clubs that are mostly located in large U.S. cities. The company's website lists 106 locations, 40 of which are in Manhattan, and the rest are sprinkled around places like Chicago, Miami, London, and Washington, DC. When you have a CLEAR® Plus membership, you can jump to the front of the security line, but — unlike TSA PreCheck members —you'll still have to remove items like your laptop and shoes before getting screened.

Even if you can use just a handful of these perks, it's easy to cover most (or all) of the Amex Platinum's annual fee. The recommended credit score for this card is above 690 and it ranks as one of the best travel cards, but that doesn't mean it's right for every traveler. Once on the “Replace” a Card menu, you'll be able to select a reason for replacement. In addition to the classic Platinum Card design, new and existing Platinum Card Members can choose between two Art x Platinum designs.

If you know of a better deal, or disagree with our reasoning please contact us and if appropriate changes will be made. Check the CardMatch tool to see if you're targeted for a 150,000-point Platinum Card offer (after meeting minimum spending requirements). However, suppose you also have The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. In that case, you'll get one of the very best direct point redemptions available.

An earlier interior view reveals how the artist arranged the home's light-filled studio space. Blackberry cobbler with homemade ice cream, peach upside-down cake with ginger ice cream and bourbon sauce, or blueberry tart with sweet corn ice cream ($8 each) are well-deserved after the strenuous exertions of a slow repast. Josephine House is the latest acquisition in the ever-expanding empire of the McGuire Moorman Hospitality Group, which has perfected the art of entertainment dining. Nestled up against the new Jeffrey's and serving only snacks and drinks during the evening hours, it seems like Josephine House's initial concept was as a stylish waiting area for the main attraction next door.

Despite the stunning vistas and storied provenance, however, when the house went on the market for $10.5 million in 2017, there wasn’t a buyer in sight. As the asking price continued to drop, the conservancy gave Naouri and Choi its blessing, and they bought the home as well as the hundreds of paintings in Robert Chuey’s estate last spring. “The size of the house was quite small for the price they were asking,” explains Los Angeles developer Philippe Naouri, who with partner Eric Choi bought the house two years later for the reduced price of $5.75 million. The modest 2,000-square-foot house “didn't match the price point” of the highly coveted 1.5 acres it sat on, Naouri says, tempting prospective buyers to raze the historic house and start fresh with a profitable 20,000-square-foot mansion.

Casa Josephine Studio for LOEWE

Two houses refurbished with rest and comfort in mind. Two perfect accommodations to enjoy the good and simple life with friends or family. With a capacity of people (La Rioja) and 4-5 (Segovia), both are rented as a complete house.

Grab some fresh-baked scones for the table, then make the difficult decision between citrus-cured lox and lemon ricotta pancakes. There’s also a small menu of fresh-squeezed juices, just be ready to shell out $10 for a glass of (admittedly, very good) OJ. Josephine House of AustinThe sister restaurant to Austin fine dining institution Jeffrey’s, offering breakfast, lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner & Monday night steak frites. The Clarksville cottage features a small marble bar for coffee or cocktails, intimate tables in the dining room, shady nooks on our patio and a grassy front lawn for lounging. Serving an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products. To defer entirely to the architect’s original vision, however, would mean “making a museum and not a house,” Campbell says.

Great Places To Eat Something Kind Of Healthy In Austin

Rather than tear down any walls, Campbell’s creative solution is to repurpose it as a dining room and build a larger one in the new addition. In 1956, when the still-untamed Hollywood Hills were an experimental architectural lab, the modernist Richard Neutra designed a house there for the painter-and-poet couple Robert Chuey and Josephine Ain Chuey. Built in the International style, the house featured Neutra’s signature emphasis on the Southern California landscape, namely glass walls that let in natural light and framed 360-degree views of the hills and sea. It gave the Chueys space for Robert’s studio practice and their social experiments in psychedelics.

An old-fashioned vibe encapsulated at Josephine House

Brunch at Josephine House feels a little like dining at a friend’s (very nice) house. And the best part is that it’s available all week. This is one of our favorite spots in Clarksville for healthy-ish dishes—like the rice bowl served with roasted and pickled vegetables, arugula, and a poached egg.

Mediterranean culture, the 20th century avant-garde style and the history of art are the foundation of its creative conception. Their work has been recognized by the domestic and international press and media. On their first date they talked for seven hours, and two weeks later they took a spontaneous trip to Hawaii together.

Josephine House

As a writer, artist and flutist, Johnna shares his passion for being creative. “It was obvious pretty quickly that we were really into each other,” he recalls. Food Network fans watched Duff create hundreds of over-the-top, hyperrealistic cakes at his Baltimore bakery Charm City Cakes for 10 seasons on Ace of Cakes. The baker and his team drew viewers in with their funny rapport and ingenious ideas about how to make an edible Jeep with working lights or the best way to transform a hunk of modeling chocolate into Betty White. Shulman’s photos show the house with reflecting pools and spider leg intact.

The menu changes daily and generally features healthy foods that belong to the season; the summer menu, for instance, relies heavily on tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and melon, all brightened with fresh herbs and local cheese. Smoked Gulf snapper on a salad of minted watermelon and cucumber ($18) struck the perfect note for a 103-degree day. A puff-pastry savory tart with roasted tomatoes and eggplant ($12) evoked picnics and croquet on grass-covered lawns. Chef Jen Jackson, formerly of Lenoir and Swift's Attic, has taken a few classy old standards and injected new life into them using a modern farm-to-table sensibility.

Ho-hum empanadas, for instance, thrill again when they are filled with roasted onions and shishito peppers ($12). A croissant sandwich is a novelty when pastry is flaky and the meat inside it is thin-sliced smoked duck breast accented by tart cherry jam and cabbage slaw ($16). A BLT is elevated by grilled sourdough, roasted tomatoes, herbed pesto, and mustard greens.

Located in the heart of Madrid, on Calle Santa Ana 15 in Madrid's Rastro neighborhood, this space unites the concepts of a showroom (with pieces of furniture for sale) and a décor studio. It is characterized by its selection and edition of objects and artistic pieces. The lights in the house suddenly flick on as the power finally returns, and Duff lets out a little “Yay! ” in the middle of describing his own light-bulb moments with his daughter.

“I think if I wasn’t woodworking, if I wasn’t doing other creative things, playing music, I would probably miss it a lot more.” Plus, “there’s still a lot of baking in the house,” adds Duff, who shoots his cookbooks here. Duff credits his laid-back attitude to this house, where he and Johnna moved after their wedding — it’s surrounded by nature up a steep, unpaved road off a winding canyon highway — and all the hobbies he’s delved into here. He’s been making toys for their daughter Josephine, 2, and practicing the guitar for his band Foie Grock (a play on “foie gras” and “rock and roll”). Along with the house itself, the developers purchased the more than 200 paintings of Robert Chuey’s estate.

The light-filled house had doubled as his studio. What's the fastest way to take a trip through time? Go to Josephine House for lunch, where everything is staged with Southern Living nostalgia in mind, right down to marble counters, whitewashed shiplap walls, and the seersucker-uniformed staff. Josephine House is the type of place where you can easily dither away the afternoon sipping iced teas and grazing on cool melon salads. A huge oak shades the patio while the low hum of oscillating fans lulls you into a lazy midsummer languor.

Now there’s a reason for me to be making toys,” he says. He’s made her a set of blocks, a busy board and a fish-shaped clock, and he’s working on a chameleon marionette. The breadth of Robert Chuey’s paintings spanned portrait, still life, landscape, and abstraction. The upscale seafood restaurant Perla’s has an iconic South Congress patio. Casa Josephine is an interior design and architecture studio based in Madrid, founded and led by Iñigo Aragón and Pablo López Navarro.

However, since it opened in February, Josephine House has taken on a life of its own. Lunches and late afternoon comestibles at Josephine House stand on their merit. Josephine House, set in a little blue cottage in the charming Clarksville neighborhood just west of downtown Austin, is available for full buyouts that includes both Indoor and outdoor seating on the wraparound patio. The Apartment, located above sister restaurant, Jeffrey’s, is ideal for  intimate daytime parties or meetings with all the Josephine House favorites.

Best New Cruise Ships for Adults

virgin voyages cruise ships

It's not a lot of storage space — perfect for one, manageable for two and likely impossible for three or four. In a world where women are still fighting for their place at the table, intelligence is something women are often taught not to claim for themselves. Women are taught to be pretty, patient, and strong — and those are often traits we’re allowed to own. But being smart, being absolutely brilliant, is a characteristic that women are so rarely allowed to celebrate without fear of being called arrogant.

Queen or King Size Bed Options

virgin voyages cruise ships

Sometimes, those nooks were tucked-away bars, like the Dock House Bar, just slightly off the main thoroughfare. Or, perhaps they were cute seating areas, like the curtained-off tables at the Sip bar or day beds on the open-air decks. Inside both ships' gyms were cardio machines, strength and training equipment, and dramatic ocean views. Both cruise lines also had fitness classes like yoga, although these sessions came at an additional cost on the Royal Caribbean ship. Dining on Virgin Voyages ships is ticket price-inclusive - no extra charges are applied to any of the 20-plus onboard dining options. The cruise company doesn't believe in "paying more for great food", so it ditched traditional surcharges levied in specialty restaurants.

Brilliant Lady

The food, which ranged from snapper steamed in a banana leaf to a salad featuring Bahamian mango and macadamia, is included, though some dishes were better than others. I loved mixing the curry, rice and snapper I ordered all together to create a pretty tasty bowl. For more spacious bathrooms, tricked-out terraces, lounge and seating spaces, and extra perks, upgrade to the RockStar Quarters.

We're giving a Virgin-style makeover to cruise spas and fitness programming.

However, rumor has it there was a pool float party that occurred after our departure. While I appreciated the array of options at our disposal, I found the quality of the food and service to be hit or miss. Some restaurants I loved so much that I went back a second time; at others, I took a solitary bite of food before deciding to move on.

I appreciate how the line has hired diverse performers in terms of race, size and gender expression, and how its shows do not shy away from mature language and sexual themes (both gay and straight). Virgin Voyages does not sell drink packages as typical cruise lines do. Instead, you can purchase a Bar Tab in advance, which is onboard credit you can only spend on drinks on the ship and at Virgin's Bimini Beach Club in the Bahamas. Look for booking promotions that include a free Bar Tab of a certain amount or give you bonus money on top of what you prepay.

Richard Bransons

The mattresses are rearranged on a long platform to form various arrangements; any uncovered portion of the platform serves as a nightstand or low table. True to its brand, Virgin Voyages does things a little differently than other cruise lines, and this ethos extends to its accommodations. Virgin Voyages' cabins sport a minimalist look with futuristic touches, and its suites exude a rock-n-roll vibe with in-room turntables and peekaboo showers. Our pool and outdoor hot tubs are a staple of our ship, but unlike hotels, Sailors can also look forward to a full spa with pools of varying temperatures, as well as group fitness classes. In most hotels, you can’t control the lighting beyond flipping a switch on and off.

I Spent 7 Days on My First Adults-Only Virgin Voyages Cruise

Like Royal Caribbean's, this room had a desk, a bathroom, and plenty of storage space. But naturally, the room felt more luxurious with modern, sleek furniture and an in-room tablet with smart controls for the curtains, lighting, and entertainment. However, there was an adults-only indoor solarium with whirlpools, a bar and bistro, and plenty of lounge chairs. I found it peaceful compared to the other communal spaces on board and spent time there most days. I wondered what it would be like if the entire ship felt this relaxing. Royal Caribbean is one of the world's most popular cruise lines for adults and families alike.

But I also hate paying extra for meals when food is already included. I'm 6 feet tall and can fully recline in one of Scarlet Lady's bright red, ethically sourced hammocks. The rocking of the hammock combined with the rocking of the ship at sea, especially early in the morning when the sun was low and the temperature perfect, was incredibly soothing. I found myself plotting how to get more hammock time – rather than simply forgetting I had a balcony as I busied myself around the ship. On this special evening, entertainers filled the decks' main spaces as cruisers gathered around for intimate shows.

Our most brilliant experiences

"We loved the ship and everything about it. We tried all the restaurants and it is difficult to select one as a favorite - as all had exciting menus and sooooo good food - freshly made of high-quality ingredients." Although we didn’t stay in a RockStar suite, which are at least double in size, feature a bottomless in-room bar, and have marble bathrooms with Peek-a-Boo showers (and sometimes a bathtub), we did get RockStar VIP access. The ship’s food court-styled dining, found on Deck 15, was nothing like a traditional food court. Instead of pizza, burgers, French fries, and chicken fingers, the Galley featured Bento Boxes at Bento Baby, made-to-order salads at Daily Mix, and açai bowls at The Sweet Side. We could even find freshly made juices at Juice Sea on Deck 7 and poke bowls at Sun Club Café on Deck 16.

Most hotels have restaurants, but they’re usually pretty pricey, and the food often sacrifices quality for convenience. Within just a few minutes’ walk of your cruise cabin, you’ll find over 20 free onboard dining options. The best part about staying in hotels (most hotels, anyway) is the free breakfast. While not every hotel offers free breakfast, Virgin Voyages does, along with a host of other free dining options in our 20+ onboard eateries included with your cruise cabin fare. Virgin cruise passengers are offered complimentary water (filtered and sparkling) at all onboard bars and restaurants. The sold-out cruise featuring 1,400 cabins across 16 decks of Valiant Lady could have turned our vacation into a nightmare – trapped on a smaller cruise ship than, say, Oasis of the Seas, at full capacity worried us.

Scarlet Lady's Happenings Cast (ie, the entertainment team) lead Grog Walks around the ship that are a mix of pub crawl and icebreaker games so you can meet your shipmates. They do incur an extra fee to cover drinks, but they're insanely popular and sell out quickly. Try to book the one early in the cruise to meet people and get the lay of the lounge landscape. The most highly sought after reservation on the ship is Gunbae, Scarlet Lady's Korean BBQ restaurant. Be prepared to make friends – all tables seat six, and your smaller party will be seated with strangers.

Scarlet Lady defies categorization when it comes to pricing, as well. Its cruise fares are more inclusive than your typical mass-market ship, and therefore more expensive than other mainstream lines. But it doesn't have the same vibe as luxury cruise ships that tend to cater to a retired, wealthy clientele, who are less active and not into dance parties or cutting-edge entertainment. On board one of the largest cruise ships in the world, Royal Caribbean's spa and fitness center was naturally larger. On the Royal Caribbean ship, my ocean-view stateroom was a 179-square-foot space with an en-suite bathroom, a desk, and a king-sized bed. There was also a closet and drawers with plenty of space to store my belongings.

Right next door is the Lick Me Till Ice Cream outpost where you can choose from a changing roster of hand-scooped ice cream and cone flavors. Down the hall is The Social Club Diner satisfying all your bar food cravings with hot dogs (including vegan ones), chicken wings and soft pretzels. You can also order sweets like cake pops and steal candy out of a jar (except it's not stealing if it's free and meant for you to take). Scarlet Lady also has a supper club experience called It's a Ship Show, which takes place in The Manor.

Be prepared to come to blows with your cabinmate over who gets the hammock first and for how long. Some Sea View cabins come in slightly different configurations, especially the rooms located where the ship's superstructure juts out at an angle. We toured one of these practically V-shaped rooms, which had one rectangular window rather than a full porthole. The window was on the same wall as the bed and chair, and the opposite wall had the desk, mini-fridge and mirror. The converging angle of the two walls made it a tight squeeze between the bed and the desk.

All eateries offer "exceptional made-to-order eats" - complimentary. On December 19, 2019, was announced the "Sailor Loot" (OBC/onboard credit) program. These promotions offer OBC (per cabin) for shipboard spending during the current voyage. The OBC is based on the stateroom category and ranges from US$ 100 (interior and oceanview) to US$200 (balcony) and up to US$ 400 (suites). I can’t believe I am going to say this after years of giving my mother grief for not getting off cruise ships and exploring, but my friend and I loved Valiant Lady so much that we wished we spent more time onboard!

Alaska Cruises 2023-2024 Cruise to Alaska Best Alaska Cruise

Like almost any choice one makes when booking a cruise, it all comes down to personal taste. Rita, Holland America and Princess offer the best options for cruise and land tours. You can choose to start or end your land tour in Anchorage or Fairbanks.

Canadian Rockies cruisetours

In August, the cruise season is in full swing, and multiple ships may be in port. With children out of school, cruise ships welcome many families in the month of August. They also see travelers from Australia who are escaping their winter. Although the average daily temperatures throughout Southeast Alaska are in the 60s Fahrenheit in August, extreme highs near 90 and lows below 20 have been reported. Expect the temperature to fluctuate by 30 degrees or more in a single day regardless of when you cruise. Alaska cruises sail along the Inside Passage, most of which lies within the Tongass National Forest.

ALASKA CRUISE TOURS

Remember swimwear for the ship; even if it’s cool outside, the Solarium on board is climate controlled and covered, so you can relax on a lounger in the warmth, and swim in the pool. Sail the Inside Passage, watching for bears foraging on stony beaches, or gaze in wonder at the towering, blue-white wall of the mighty Hubbard Glacier. Sail from Vancouver to North America’s biggest glacier, seven miles wide and the height of a 30-story building.

The Best Alaska Cruises

The best Alaska cruises manage to combine epic nature with local flavor, and the following options all offer that mix with some variation. If you're happy with a couple of historic tours and a guided hike, you could likely budget $500 or less per person for shore excursions in Alaska. But if once-in-a-lifetime Alaska experiences like helicopter rides and flightseeing in Ketchikan are more your speed, you'll need to triple that amount -- or more. If you are cruising in Alaska during the Northern Lights season, note that the Gulf of Alaska is choppiest in September and not recommended for travelers who get seasick.

Get up close to Mother Nature’s masterpieces and listen for the crash of “white thunder”. Between the natural masterpieces and the animate personalities, every part of Alaska tells an extraordinary story. On an Alaska cruisetour with Princess, discover what makes the Great Land so special, and craft your own tales of your time on land and sea. Tour a working Alaska homestead and learn how the Great Land’s residents have become so self-sufficient.

Some shore excursions allow up close interaction with these natural wonders. Let Princess pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your ship or hotel when you arrive, even if you didn't book your airfare through us. If you're on a budget, stick to interior rooms and look for the big cruise ships, which tend to have more inventory.

Explore Alaska by Land and Sea

Enjoy three glacier-viewing experiences on every itinerary — including Glacier Bay National Park, Hubbard Glacier and College Fjord. To truly enjoy an Alaskan cruise, cruisers can visit from April to October when daylight hours, weather and wildlife are better. July is filled with opportunities to see the stunning wildlife of Alaska while enjoying milder temperatures. Although it is getting darker earlier, solar activity is not at its peak in the summer, so your chances of viewing the Northern Lights in July are slim to none. After the Summer Solstice in June, Alaska begins losing daylight with each passing day.

Alaska Cruisetours

Elias and Kenai Fjords, a world of natural wonders awaits on an Alaska cruise or cruisetour. We have a 50-year legacy of sharing the best places and experiences with our guests. On an Alaska cruise, unpack once and explore glaciers, wildlife and national parks. Travel the Inside Passage on 10 or 11-day Alaska cruises from San Francisco and allow the natural landscapes to inspire your day’s adventures.

There are numerous factors you need to consider for a cruise to Alaska, including the best time of year, costs, itineraries, which line to choose and which destinations matter most to you. Celebrity’s Alaskan cruises range from six to seven nights, but if you extend your voyage into a Cruisetour, the duration is nine to 13 nights. You could also consider extending your vacation with a night or two in either Vancouver or Seattle, depending on which itinerary you have chosen. Alaska is all about exploring the Great Outdoors with family and friends, learning about US History and enjoying wildlife. There are hikes, kayaking, mountain biking, ziplining, and dog sledding for more energetic travelers. Pack binoculars for spotting all that incredible wildlife, and camera lens or smartphone.

From the sweeping mountains of Juneau to the fish-bearing seas of Ketchikan, discover our Alaska cruise ports and set sail into the adventures that await you. Travel back in time and pan for gold like a prospector during the Gold Rush. Snuggle sled dog puppies in the ship's Piazza, or see the Northern Lights in the planetarium. At the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, explore our treehouse and enjoy unmatched views of Denali. Dive deeper into what makes the Great Land special on your cruise to Alaska.

Birds also haven’t started their migration, so you can spot both songbirds and seabirds as you cruise along the coast. Gray whales and Humpback whales begin their migration to warmer waters in October and November, so you still have a chance to see them in Alaskan waters in September. In August, the wildlife can sense that winter is on its way, and activity picks up to prepare for the months of cold, snow, and darkness.

If hiking to higher elevations or take a helicopter excursion to a glacier, extra layers may be necessary to compensate for various types of Alaska weather. Cruising in early August can also experience vastly different temperatures than the end of August. Before booking a cruise, compare hours in pork and where the ship docks. If there are more than for ships scheduled to stop in Juneau, some vessels will need to tender. Residents from the south, might not want to cruise to Alaska in May because it may be to cold for them.

These are the months when all good things combine to create the optimal Alaskan experience. June is a smart choice for cruisers who don’t want to travel during peak season but want more opportunities. May is a practical choice for Alaskan cruisers who are on a limited budget but want to have slightly warmer and drier weather and more chances to see wildlife. Your views will likely include snowy mountains, but they are gorgeous nonetheless. You’ve got about a 50/50 chance of getting rained or snowed on during excursions.

That includes warm days, where even being near a glacier or a passing cloud (or socked-in rain) can make things chilly. While you might not be sunning yourself to a stunning shade of bronze on an Alaska cruise, you and everyone on board will want to take in the scenery. That makes having your own balcony a prime piece of real estate, especially near Denali National Park, portions of the Inside Passage or Tracy Arm Fjord. One-way Gulf of Alaska itineraries are the best option for Alaska touring, as they begin or end in Alaska. If you'd like an assist with your outdoor adventures, the Mount Roberts Tramway climbs 1,800 feet above Juneau for gorgeous views.

Summer workers (typically college students) begin to arrive for the peak tourist season, and shops and restaurants open for the summer. May is an excellent cruising month for birdwatchers as migratory songbirds start to arrive in Alaska and seabirds gather in their nesting spots or rookeries. Keep an eye out for my favorite, the ever-adorable puffins, Arctic terns, cormorants, and bald eagles.

Park 2 Cruise Galveston, however, is a new lot that’s directly the street and serves only Royal Caribbean. While you’re living it up on your luxury cruise, the hotel will keep your car safely parked. On your return, use the hotel shuttle or get a taxi back to the hotel and pick up your car.

Lighthouse Parking also offers parking for oversized vehicles. The garage is within walking distance to the terminal, and the lot offers a shuttle that will transport you to your terminal. Trust Port Parking for your Galveston cruise terminal parking needs while you enjoy the unique experience of a cruise from Galveston on the Harmony of the Seas.

Liberty of the Seas, which has sailed from Galveston for many years, will finish her time in Texas in October 2022. Until then, she is offering 7-night Western Caribbean cruises visiting the ports of Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth, Belize City, Roatan, and Costa Maya. If you arrive in Houston late at night, your best bet is to stay near the airport and catch a shuttle or rideshare service to Galveston the following morning. Be sure to still allow yourself plenty of time to travel between Houston and Galveston in case of traffic or other delays.

Take advantage of the Inn at the Waterpark’s free long-term parking. If you are a guest of the hotel you may leave your vehicle parked at the property for the duration of your cruise. Just confirm vehicle parking with the Front Desk and park in the designated area. The 3,258 passenger Voyager of the Seas is idealy suited for families with superb Children's facilities catering to yougsters aged 6 months and up. However there are things for cruisers of all ages to enjoy on this versatile ship. Plenty of sun decks and an ample number of pools lend themselves to fun in the sun.

Our many loyal customers can tell you, our experienced staff prides themselves on providing customer service that is second-to-none. Many people ask if there is a particular lot they should use. Truth is that these companies put a lot of effort into giving you a good experience at a fair price, or else they wouldn’t be in business. We have personally parked at both EZ Cruise Parking and Galveston Park N Cruise.

Enjoy your trip with the peace of mind that your vehicle will be safe and secure. Our elevated and secured lot, strategically positioned just two blocks from either terminal, grants you the flexibility to park-n-walk or park-n-ride as per your preference. Our commitment to accessibility is unwavering, evident through our provision of handicap parking and ADA compliant shuttles for those with special needs. Your luggage finds a comfortable home on our shuttle, eliminating the need to navigate terminal traffic for drop-offs. There are several independently owned and operated parking lots near the Port of Galveston.

You can enjoy the views, and early morning walks to the beach, or evening strolls as the sun sets. My only real complaint was the dusty floors inside the garage. Theres a lot of street construction all around them and it’s very dusty. The wheels on our suitcases were always filthy when we got home. But still our favorite place to park other than the new RC lots.

These procedures have been designed for your safety and all attempts will be made to expedite you through the process as quickly as possible. Please do not arrive before your selected arrival time as space is limited in the terminal. Next, be sure to research the various amenities and activities available on board the ship. Royal Caribbean offers a wide range of entertainment options, dining choices, and even spa treatments.

The Port of Galveston offers plenty of nearby hotels that cater specifically to cruisers, making it convenient for passengers looking to extend their vacation. Be sure to check our page on Galveston parking coupons to save more money. As well, see if the lots offer an option to walk to the port instead of taking a shuttle and potentially save money.

Cruise Port Webcams Live Port Cameras

camera on cruise ship

In the past, Cunard Line provided live webcams that showed the scene from the ship’s bow. To find out if the cruise ship cameras are back online, click on the links below. In addition to watching live webcams, live ship tracking is a useful tool for keeping track of your favorite ships.

Costa Cruises Webcams

Those that aren't live streaming cameras display static images which are updated between once every 30 seconds to once every 15 minutes. To make sure you don't miss any updates from the static image cameras we automatically look for a new image every 30 seconds. This will ensure you always have the latest image without having to manually reload/refresh any page. Watching the live webcams on cruise ships can be a fun way to see where a cruise ship is.

Cruise Port Webcams / Live Port Cameras

If P&O webcams come back online, you will be able to view them here. P&O Cruises used to offer webcams, but then “temporarily” removed them during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. I’m starting to think that when they said it was temporary, they meant permanent.

Nassau Webcam

Some cruise lines provide webcam feeds online for the public to view. With this webcam, Port Canaveral views include images of your favorite family-friendly ships as they come and go. Be sure to click the play button and skip the commercial to start the feed.

Norwegian Cruise Ship Webcams

camera on cruise ship

Another helpful tool for keeping tabs on cruise ships is a live cruise ship tracker, which allows you to see where each ship is on a map of the world. This real time ship location information can be helpful in planning your next cruise or simply satisfying your curiosity about where your favorite ships are. Online ship tracking can also be useful in case of any unexpected changes in a ship’s itinerary or schedule.

Carnival Vista Webcam

In most cases, the person who finds your camera will begin to index through the pictures. Finding a photo of a page that says “if lost please return to” can be all the motivation it takes for someone to contact you about the camera. You might also consider noting that you will send a reward to the honest person who returns your camera as a thank you. Prices vary by cruise line and type, such as embarkation day and formal night.

Many cruise lines stopped providing live streaming feeds from their ships during the industry-wide shutdown. Once cruising returned, many of the cruise lines below didn’t bring back their live webcams. Webcams on cruise ships provide a real-time view of the area around the ship. A live webcam on the bow of almost every cruise ship provides views of the surrounding ocean, the ship’s route, or the nearby port of call when the ship is docked.

Some cruise ships also provide an aft webcam showcasing the ship’s wake. On its website, Costa Cruises offers live webcam broadcasts for viewing. Every ship in their fleet has live cams available for viewing at the bow and aft. Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades webcam is another way to keep tabs on the constant influx of ships in Florida.

If you forgot your memory card, lost your battery or are urged to purchase a new camera on your cruise, your best bet is to shop in port. If you are on a ship that has what you're looking for, be prepared to spend more than you would on land. A number of cruise ships do sell cameras onboard -- ranging from disposables to high-tech gear -- but choices are usually limited. Tampa may not get the publicity of larger ports in Florida, but the western Florida port sees a lot of traffic.

If you are an avid photographer and never take a trip without your DSLR camera, then you have a good idea of what you will need and the space required to safely pack your equipment. But either way, there are a few tips that every photographer should keep in mind when on a cruise ship. Get comfortable with your camera's hardware before the cruise; practice taking photos during the day, at night and both indoors and outdoors. Early morning or late at night are great times to shoot decks and public spaces both inside and out, since they're less crowded. Sunrise and sunset are also great times to take photos outdoors. Current image availability and updates are subject to satellite signal connectivity with the ship which can be affected by weather, position, and onboard equipment issues.

Up until the industry-wide suspension in 2020, P&O Cruises offered public webcam broadcasting. P&O Cruises has resumed sailing; however, they haven’t added live cameras. The live webcam feeds have not returned, even if cruising has resumed.

The cost of waterproof and water resistant cameras have dropped substantially in the last few years and the picture quality is surprisingly good. And while Disney Cruise Line has never had public webcam feeds, you can still see their ships on various port webcams such as Port of Miami, Port Canaveral, and Galveston. While Miami might be known for cruising, Port Everglades in nearby Fort Lauderdale sees nearly the same number of passengers each year. It also sees the biggest cruise ships in the world sail from its port.

The muddy Mississippi may not look anything like the Caribbean, but it’s the key to getting from New Orleans to points further south. Carnival used to allow the public to watch a live webcam stream from every cruise ship. However, Carnival removed the webcams following the 2020 industry-wide stop. Grab your favorite fruity cocktail and view up to four ships at once with the Cozumel cruise port cam, which broadcasts via a live YouTube feed.

But not all cruise lines provide live webcams for the public. Below is a list of cruise ships with live feeds you can view at home. The Royal cams were discontinued, for example, but there are many cruise ship webcams to watch.

Cruise Fever will continue to update this list as cruise lines add webcams for viewing. For example, Princess, Holland America, Celebrity and Crystal offer photography classes onboard their ships on some itineraries. Classes vary but typically focus on areas such as digital photography and photo editing. I also send a weekly email to 40,000 cruisers, providing them with the latest news and updates in the industry. Joining my email list is a great way to stay informed and receive exclusive offers and discounts. I’ve worked in the cruise industry since 2006 and have taken over 20 cruises, making me an experienced and knowledgeable source for all things related to cruising.
