The end result is still an impressive sight, and it’s hard to imagine what Mount Rushmore would look like if Borglum had been able to stick to his original design. In September 1937, Lincoln’s head was dedicated, while the fourth and final head—that of FDR’s fifth cousin, Theodore Roosevelt—was dedicated in July 1939.
